Signal Lost

The group work, "Signal Lost," is a contemporary work that emphasizes emotional connections between the dancers through internal and external challenges that they face throughout the narrative of the piece. Conceptually, the piece relates to how going through an unknown phase of life can feel like taking a road trip and relying solely on the GPS. Sometimes, you have to reroute your path if you miss a turn. There are other times where the signal may be lost entirely, and this causes you to reevaluate the route.

Invisible Instincts

This collaborative work is titled, "Invisible Instincts." The inspiration for this duet was the fight-or-flight response that is driven by the sympathetic nervous system, and we further investigated how different people exhibit varying responses to sensory stimuli.

AA Lamp in A Dark Room

This piece follows a non-linear interpretation of the 79 AD eruption of Mt. Vesuvius that destroyed the city of Pompeii, Italy. The piece begins in the present day looking at the city from the tourist perspective before transporting back to before the disaster and the sense of urgency along with it. Once the bodies had been frozen in time by becoming cemented following the disaster, I envisioned the spirits of the victims reuniting with each other in the afterlife to reflect on everything that had happened. The spirits of the victims experience out-of-body moments to look at their cemented body casts that continue to be viewed and interpreted by tourists for many years to come.

Pede Claudo

This solo analyzes the characters Dr. Henry Jekyll and Mr. Edward Hyde from Robert Louis Stevenson’s novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. I viewed movie and musical adaptations of this novel for inspiration, and I focused on the central conflict of the story where Jekyll was trying to figure out what causes the evil in people and how to suppress his own evil urges. Jekyll tries to suppress his urges by creating a potion to remove the evil from his system; however, he ended up creating a sinister second personality named Edward Hyde. The choreography utilizes shifts of focus, effort levels, and leading with right or left sides of the body to clarify which character is present at each given time.

This solo explores the concept of feeling stuck inside the habit of thinking too much, and this piece demonstrates how this idea can lead to indecisiveness.
